Find the part for your engine

Check the engine size on your vehicle documents or under-hood label. Choose it explicitly even when only one option appears.

Already have a factory heater? A missing power cord may be all you need. Match the connector before ordering.

What it costs to plug in a Land Rover Range Rover — and what it saves

The catalogued element for the Range Rover draws 400 W. Natural Resources Canada recommends a timer that runs the heater two hours before you drive rather than all night — that is what the numbers below assume.

Province¢/kWhCost per 2 h plug-inFull winter (120 nights)Net per day
Quebec7.0$0.06$6.72+$0.39
Manitoba10.2$0.08$9.79+$0.36
Ontario (avg TOU)12.8$0.10$12.29+$0.34
Alberta14.0$0.11$13.44+$0.33
Saskatchewan15.5$0.12$14.88+$0.32
Nova Scotia17.9$0.14$17.18+$0.30

Natural Resources Canada rates the Land Rover Range Rover at 14.4 L/100 km in city driving (median across 1995–2026 model years). On a 20 km winter commute that is about 2.9 L a day. NRCan measured that at −20 °C a block heater improves overall fuel economy by as much as 10% — roughly 0.29 L, or $0.45 of gasoline at $1.55/L. On a single short trip at −25 °C the saving can reach 25%. In most provinces the electricity costs less than the fuel it saves; in the priciest it roughly breaks even, and you still get the wear, defrost and cabin-heat benefits.

Cold-weather recalls on the Land Rover Range Rover

No block-heater recall is on file for the Range Rover, but Transport Canada has recorded cold-weather and cooling-system recalls worth checking before you install anything.

Recall 19981481995–1999· Engine· 1,024 vehicles· 1998-07-22

CERTAIN UNDER-HOOD HOSE AND TUBING COMPONENTS (PRIMARILY COOLANT HOSES) CAN FAIL. UNINTENDED RELEASE OF FLUIDS SUCH AS ENGINE COOLANT, WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID, AND AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID CAN LEAD TO CONDITIONS WHICH CAN CAUSE A VEHICLE FIRE. CORRECTION: A SERIES OF MODIFICATIONS WILL BE MADE TO SEVERAL UNDER-HOOD COMPONENTS TO ELIMINATE THE RELEASE OF SUCH FLUIDS AND IMPROVE THE VEHICLE'S RESISTANCE TO UNDER-HOOD FIRE.

Recall 20231892019–2021· Engine· 352 vehicles· 2023-03-30

Issue: On certain vehicles, the water pump drive belt could become damaged and detach. As a result, the engine could overheat and cause the coolant elbow to rupture. If this happens, coolant could leak onto the turbocharger heatshield. Note: This recall only affects plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models. Safety Risk: A coolant leak onto the turbocharger heatshield may lead to a fire in the engine bay. Corrective Action: Land Rover will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the engine coolant elbow and turbocharger feed coolant pipe.

Recall 19992081999· Steering· 285 vehicles· 1999-11-15

On certain vehicles, the power steering pump pulley may fail resulting in a loss of steering power assist as well as the water pump, alternator and air conditioning. Loss of power steering would result in a requirement for increased steering effort and could in turn result in a vehicle crash. Correction: Power steering pump pulley will be replaced with a redesigned pulley.

No tools? The stick-on option

If you'd rather skip the install entirely, a magnetic heater grips any flat steel surface — oil pan, block, transmission pan — and moves between vehicles. Check that the Range Rover's oil pan is steel first: a magnet won't hold on aluminum or composite pans.

First: check whether you already have one

Canadian-market vehicles are often fitted at the port or dealer and then forgotten by the next owner, so check the cord location above before you buy anything. If a cord is there, test it — a dead element and a dead cord look identical from the outside.

If you need one installed

Budget $40–$120 CAD for the part plus about an hour of labour, and book in October — Prairie shop calendars fill after the first cold snap.
