Do small engines have block heaters?

Air-cooled engines (portables, mowers, most ATVs' predecessors) have no coolant jacket, so no traditional block heater — the equivalent is a silicone pad heater on the oil sump, sized at roughly 10 watts per quart of oil. Liquid-cooled compact diesels in skid steers and gensets do take real frost-plug and immersion heaters.

What is the best heater for equipment without a frost plug?

A glue-on silicone pad heater (25–250 W by sump size) is the universal answer, followed by a threaded immersion heater if the pan or block has an NPT port, a lower-radiator-hose heater on liquid-cooled machines, or a magnetic heater on any steel pan.
